Just a poll/ question of the people here, but how many of you use, or prefer cloth diapers to disposables?
For that matter, when any of you think of cloth diapers...is the only thing that comes to your mind the old school type where it requires pins, layers of cloth to make it, and plastic pants on top? Maybe you were thinking one of the clumsy looking all in one types that are out there on the market? If so, for those of you who don't actually use cloth, is that the stuff that makes you stay away from them?
I used to think the same thing when I thought of cloth diapers. Even ordered myself a couple plastic pants from Fetware before, for the added protection, as well as babyish feel. I guess it wasn't until one of our friends brought us up to speed on the new world of cloth diapers last year with our first son. Did you know they make what are called "pocket Diapers" as well as "AIO's" or All in One's?

Neither did I, until we saw them on her kid, and she gave us a few to try on our 1 1/2 year old. We were hooked from then on, and started to order several for our first born, as well as our one that was on the way. It's been great to have reusable diapers for the boys now, and as the older grows up and out of them, the younger one in turn get to move in to his brothers instead saving us money!
Here is the way it works: You have a cloth diaper that is soft on the inside and if it is an AIO, then it also has asorbent layers sewn in. If it's a pocket, then there is no asorbent material. Instead you place your soakers, how ever many you feel you need, into the pocket and it asorbs your stuff. the outer layers are a inner layer of Polyurethane-laminate and what ever outter fabric they use. So now you have a cloth diaper that can go on like a disposable and be as bulky or thin as you like! Now, why might I be bringing all this baby stuff up to a bunch of adults and young adults...did anyone realize they make this stuff for adults too? Smile

They sure do! I've ordered a few different ones of the last year for myself as you can see by my avatar. That one was a cloud print AIO that I bought early this year and it's worked decently. I've got a few different ones that I have tested out, but it wasn't until late April, Early May that I finally found exactly what I was looking for. A company that makes some of my boys diapers, also has an adult line. I bought one of there pocket diapers as a test to see if I would like it, and when I got it in early May I was amazed at how well it was built, how soft and how comfortable it felt! Once my wife knew how much I loved it, she secretly bought me one of her printed AIO's to try as well as a gift. That too I fell in love with, so I finally ordered several of her diapers earlier this month and now that i've got about 10 diapers from her, I can truely say they are some amazing products! This might not be for everyone, but it's at least something to look into. You can do a google search for adult AIO's and Adult Pocket Diapers to find other sites, but you will have to dig a little to find them as there are not that many out there. But the one I have fallen in love with is a place called Snap-EZ 4 Life. Now, she's not AB aware, but she's very nice. give the site a looking at if you want and maybe you might find something you like. Just don't go emailing her being rude or requesting out of this world stuff! She's a work at home mom that's currently running two companies so try to be respectful.

I prefer the old school (as you say) cloth diapers that use pins, but that is because I was born in the 1950's, when they only used those. I haven't worn a diaper in a long time, several years, now. partly because of my personal circumstances, and partly because I don't have the desire as strong now. I have an online baby girl who was born 30 years after I was, and she only wears disposable. I guess it's just a generational thing.

I prefer the old school pins and plastic pants. I checked out her website and i just can't pay $60 for 1 diaper.

Yea, the 60 bucks is only for the larger AIO diapers, but I'm not getting that size, and I also get a discount now through her for something else so that helps. Plus Free shipping on orders over a certain amount helps also. I can understand the high prices, but after having spent what I have in the past for other cloth diapers, and then having bought hers...I would gladly spend it again. I guess I figure I was spending already a crap load for disposables that I threw away. Cause that's what you are doing right...takeing your cash, wiping your butt with it and throwing it away. Smile

Least that is the way I look at it now ... I figure we all want what we want, so we are going to find a way to afford it, be it a basic diaper, that super special BRAND NEW diaper, or clothes or what ever. For me, these have become my diaper of choice now. I'm just honestly so much happier with these. My wife has really taken notice to it, be it my confidence or just comfort...hell even she's taking a liking to them on me again as she had tired of the disposables.

iv actualy never tryed cloth but they dont look like my thing, so id have to say disposibles though i do want to try plastic pants, anyone know where i can get some not online

I grew up wearing cloth diapers, but wear disposables (even though I prefer cloth) for the same reason my kids wore disposables... they're more convenient. I have a hard enough time washing my regular clothes, much less diapers on top of that.

I'm 25 years old but I prefer cloth and plastic pants over disposables. I was in both as a kid but I think the plastic pants are what does it for me.

Hi there, I'm new to this site, but am a veteran among the diaper community. I first started out liking disposables, however just recently I have been really intrigued about cloth. I'm really glad I came across this post, as I find it very helpful and insightful, thanks!

well, if you are still curious about cloth, I can probably answer your questions. I've been a long time disposable person who has probably fully converted to Cloth now and i'm honestly much happier. Between cloth diapers for me, and for two boys in my house (my sons) I think me and the wife are pretty well versed in the matter over the last few years.

I am 26. Due to allergies (disposables had a LOT more perfume when they first came out), I was almost exclusively cloth diapered.

As an adult, I sometimes have...issues at night if I'm drunk, overtired, or medicated/sedated, so I sometimes require protection. I've been using disposibles for this, but have had problems with leaks, so I just ordered some cloth diapers, plastic pants, and soakers.

Any suggestions? I didn't really want to go all-in one as I'm a side sleeper and worry about leaks on the sides, so I went with a full plastic panty.

All depends really. If you went with Cloth diapers, then make sure you research how to wash cloth diapers. One of the key things here is to strip them when you first get them. Just search for stripping cloth diapers in google and you will find what you need. Adult or baby, it doesn't matter...same thing. Also...never ever use fabric softner with them and only a small amount of soap. My thing with using cloth and plastic pants was that most of the time, the wetness went right through the material and just kinda pooled around the bottom of the pants. This lead to leaks for one, and just didn't look good Smile

. I guess that's why we steared away from those with our boys and instead went with the pockets and such. That...and the hassel of using pins and such, then having to pull the pants up.
How ever you decide to use them...try them first! Don't order a bunch of one kind without trying them out and see if they work for you and if you like the comfort. I did this with several cloth diapers first before I have now gone exclusively with the SnapEZ. At this point I don't care about the price. For what it's worth, these have been the most comfortable, least likely to leak and easiest to use for me! I just pull em out of the washer, stuff my diapers with how ever many inserts I want (most of them I made at home with simple sewing techniques) and put them away. When I need my diapers, I just pull out one and snap it on, or ask the wife for a change and i'm good to go. When i'm ready for a change, they just come off like a disposable and get thrown in the diaper pail, or into the wash. Durring the cycle the inserts fall out and all is good to go again.

Also...if you use soakers, make sure you get good ones! Hemp is a great material for soakers. So are the car wash micro towels! Cotton...not so much!
